Form Assignments, Second Scoring, and RSVP

Find information and resources about test forms, second scoring, and the Rotating Score Validation Process (RSVP) that are assigned to certain local educational agencies (LEAs) annually.

Form Assignments

Specific assessments have different test forms, which are separate versions of the tests. Each LEA will be assigned to a form or multiple forms, which determines the appropriate Directions for Administration (DFA) document needed to administer the test.

CAA for ELA and Summative Alternate ELPAC Second Scoring

Second scoring is the process of having another individual score the same student's rubric-scored items simultaneously, yet independently, from the student's test examiner. The purposes of second scoring are to establish and document standardized scoring procedures and evaluate the validity of the rubric-scored items.

Every year, a subset of schools will be required to participate in second scoring. Schools will be chosen to participate annually, on a rotating basis.

If a school has been selected to participate in second scoring, the second scorer must have access to the DFA and be present during administration of all rubric-scored items along with the student and test examiner.

If your LEA has been selected to second-score for either the California Alternate Assessment (CAA) for English language arts/literacy (ELA) or the Summative Alternate ELPAC but does not have students participating in the assigned assessment, your LEA has met the second scoring requirement.

All second scores must be entered into the Data Entry Interface (DEI) prior to the close of the test administration window. This can be done by the second scorer or a designated staff member. An answer recording sheet in a DFA appendix can be used by the second scorer to record judgments on student responses if scores will be entered into the DEI at a later time.

Initial ELPAC RSVP and Second Scoring

The RSVP and second scoring for the Initial ELPAC help to produce item statistics for the Initial ELPAC and validate the LEA's scores for that testing period. Approximately 10 percent of LEAs assigned to Form 1 are identified annually to take part in the RSVP. For the 2024–25 test administration only, there are select LEAs assigned to Form 2 that have been chosen as a part of the Form 2 second scoring group for the completed kindergarten Writing domain assessment.
