2026–27 CAASPP and ELPAC Interim Assessments Available

Dear LEA CAASPP Coordinator or LEA ELPAC Coordinator:

The 2026–27 CAASPP and ELPAC interim assessments—including the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics, the California Science Test Interim Assessments, and ELPAC Interim Assessments—are now available to be administered in the Test Delivery System and viewed in the Interim Assessment Viewing System.

This year, the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments include several new Focused Interim Assessment Blocks (FIABs) and two replacement performance tasks. Details are as follows:

• ELA
  • There are 14 new FIABs for grades three through eight and high school—two for each grade/grade span:
    • Word Meaning and Language Use (Informational)
    • Word Meaning and Language Use (Literary)
  • The high school performance task, Home Grown, replaced How We Learn.
• Mathematics
  • The grade seven mathematics performance task, Choosing a Superhero, replaced Camping Tasks.

The CAASPP and ELPAC Interim Assessment Lookup Tool is an easy way to access a complete list of all available CAASPP and ELPAC interim assessments as well as to search for subsets of interim assessments using filters.

The optional Sample Interim Assessment Test Security Agreement is available to LEAs. Although a test security agreement is not required for interim assessments, it can be used at the discretion of the LEA and modified as needed for local use.

Secure materials for the interim assessments, including scoring and training guides, exemplars, test content and answer keys, and Directions for Administration have been updated to include the new FIABs and can be accessed in the Test Operations Management System by selecting the [Resources] tab.
