The CAST Interim Assessments in grades three, four, and five each assess all three science domains (Earth and Space Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences). Middle school and high school each have three interim assessments that assess a single science domain. The CAST Item Specifications web page provides details on each assessed dimension of a California Next Generation Science Standards performance expectation.
Each CAST Interim Assessment consists of two segments: one discrete segment and one performance task (PT) segment. The PT consists of five to six items, including one constructed-response item worth two points that must be hand scored.
The ELPAC Interim Assessments are aligned to the 2012 California English Language Development Standards for kindergarten through grade twelve. There are separate assessments in each grade level or grade span for each language domain—Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
More information about the standards measured in each domain can be found in the Definitions of Task Types for the ELPAC document.
