ELPAC & Alternate ELPAC the Results Are In—Now What? New Modules Available
Email Update, October 24, 2024
Dear California Educator:
The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC): The Results Are In—Now What? instructional module series has new modules available on the Moodle Training Site (Moodle) for ELPAC and Alternate ELPAC.
This series is created for educators who play a role in supporting high-quality classroom instruction for English learner (EL) students, and EL students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. The virtual workshop modules are designed for local facilitation in small teams but are also ideal as stand-alone learning experiences. The modules include video clips, student work, and reflections from the implementation of these practices with EL students.
The new ELPAC module, presented in two parts, demonstrates how educators can integrate the ELPAC task types—Present and Discuss Information and Summarize an Academic Presentation—in grades six through twelve science and mathematics classrooms to advance English language proficiency.
The new Alternate ELPAC module focuses on how task type 1, Recognize and Use Common Words, is aligned to its corresponding ELD Content Connectors, which in turn are used to assess EL students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.
Access the modules now on Moodle for ELPAC and Alternate ELPAC. Moodle requires educators to create an account if they have not previously used Moodle. After logging on, scroll down the "Course Categories" and under "ELPAC: The Results Are In, Now What?", select the [ELPAC: Modules] or [Alternate ELPAC: Modules] link. Modules in the training series are located in individual courses. Enrollment keys are not required, and educators are able to self-enroll in any of the module courses.
Mark your calendar! Another excellent opportunity for you to both use and share with other educators is the Results Are In—Now What? Webinar on January 29, 2025. Bring your questions, as experts in the field will present what's new, as well as answer questions regarding the module series. Although this webinar will be held in January, we want you to have time to register and share this opportunity!
For questions about the virtual workshop, contact the ELPAC Project Team by phone at 916-228-2682 or by email at elpac@scoe.net.
Questions regarding Moodle can be emailed to moodlesupport@scoe.net.
Local educational agency (LEA) ELPAC coordinators should direct other questions about the ELPAC to the LEA's assigned LEA Success Agent. Visit the California Outreach web page for other support options.
