Updates to Supported Operating Systems and Secure Browsers for 2026–27

Email Update, August 20, 2026

Dear LEA CAASPP Coordinator, LEA ELPAC Coordinator, or Technology Coordinator:

As of July 7, 2026, secure browsers and operating systems supported for 2026–27 CAASPP and ELPAC testing were updated. Most expiring desktop and mobile secure browser versions will continue to receive formal support through October 31, 2026.

Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems will require the desktop secure browser version 18 for all CAASPP and ELPAC computer-based test administrations. iPadOS will continue to use secure browser version 8.

The tables that follow list the changes in operating systems, secure browsers, and associated software that are supported for 2026–27 testing.

Google ChromeOS

Supported for 2026–27 Support Will Expire on Release of New Secure Browser Version
  • ChromeOS 144 long-term support candidate (LTC) and above
  • ChromeOS 144 long-term support (LTS) and above
  • ChromeOS 148 (stable) and above
  • ChromeOS 143 LTC and below
  • ChromeOS 143 LTS and below
  • ChromeOS 147 (stable) and below

Microsoft Windows

Supported for 2026–27 Support Will Expire October 31, 2026
  • Desktop secure browser v18
  • All Windows 11 builds and sub-versions released in May 2026 and later
  • Job Access With Speech (JAWS) versions 2024, 2025, and 2026
  • All Windows 11 builds and sub-versions released prior to November 2025
  • Windows 10 (will not be supported in 2026–27, as support ended in October 2025)
  • JAWS 2023 and earlier

Apple macOS

Supported for 2026–27 Support Will Expire October 31, 2026
  • Desktop secure browser v18
  • macOS 13.6 “Ventura” builds and sub-versions released in May 2025 and later
  • macOS 14.6 “Sonoma” builds and sub-versions released in May 2025 and later
  • macOS 15+ “Sequoia” builds and sub-versions released in May 2025 and later
  • macOS 26+ “Tahoe” builds and sub-versions released in September 2025 and later
  • macOS 27+ “Golden Gate” (upon release and acceptance)
  • macOS 13.6

Apple iPadOS

Supported for 2026–27 Support Will Expire October 31, 2026
  • Mobile secure browser v8
  • iPadOS 17.7 builds and sub-versions released in May 2025 and later
  • iPadOS 18.6 builds and sub-versions released in May 2025 and later
  • iPadOS 26 builds and sub-versions
  • iPadOS 27 (upon release and acceptance)
  • iPadOS 17.7

Linux

Supported for 2026–27 Support Will Expire October 31, 2026
  • Desktop secure browser v18
  • Fedora 43 and 44
  • Ubuntu 22 LTS
  • Ubuntu 24 LTS
  • Fedora 42 and below
  • Ubuntu 20 and below
