Enhancements in the California Educator Reporting System (CERS)

Email Update, August 18, 2026

Dear California Educator:

The California Educator Reporting System (CERS) provides public school educators with secure access to student assessment results from CAASPP and ELPAC summative and interim assessments to help inform instruction.

The CDE and Smarter Balanced continue to identify, evaluate, and prioritize CERS enhancement ideas from educators across California and the consortium. These ideas influence enhancements that make it easier to access, review, and use student assessment data in CERS. Recently, enhancements were made to the following CERS features:

  • Interim assessment student response export—New buttons allow educators to download a CSV file of students’ responses for an entire interim assessment or for a specific item.
  • Individual Student Reports (ISRs) ZIP file—A new option is available to download separate ISRs in a ZIP file, with one PDF per student. Each student file is labeled with the student’s name and includes all of the ISRs available for that student. A consolidated PDF containing all ISRs is still available.
  • Default district resource—District-level users can post a link to a default district resource (for example, shared folder, document, or web page) for all assessments instead of linking the resource separately for each assessment. Resources can still be linked for a specific assessment or a specific performance or achievement level within an assessment.
  • Updated interim assessment reporting labels—The new reporting labels for the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments for English language arts/literacy and mathematics as well as California Science Test Interim Assessments align with the new reporting achievement level descriptors for summative assessments.
  • Student group size—The maximum number of students that can be included in a student group increased from 200 to 400 students.
  • Accessibility improvements—Updates throughout CERS enhance navigation, strengthen screen reader support, and improve color contrast.
  • Assessment selection—Additional filters and improved organization of the available assessments simplify finding and selecting assessment results.
  • Help menu—The new Help menu in the header bar includes links to the CERS User Guide, CERS Interpretive Guide, and CERS Resources web page.

These enhancements have also been implemented in the CERS Sandbox training tool to ensure it closely mirrors the live CERS environment.

To learn more about CERS and recent enhancements, register for the CERS Essentials Training Series, which offers one-hour virtual sessions that focus on specific CERS features.
