CAASPP: Deadline to Complete Remaining STAIRS Cases
Email Update, May 13, 2026
Dear LEA CAASPP Coordinator:
ETS recommends that all LEAs complete any remaining Security and Test Administration Incident Reporting System (STAIRS) cases at least one week prior to the end of your selected testing window for the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy and mathematics and for the California Science Test. In addition, for the California Spanish Assessment, complete any STAIRS cases at least one week prior to the end of the test administration window. Please note that STAIRS cases cannot be processed after an LEA testing window has ended.
What follows are the recommended guidelines:
- If you are submitting any Reset, Reopen, or Grace Period Extension Appeals during the final week of the test administration, you should allow ample time for the request to be reviewed and processed, and for the student(s) to complete testing.
- Any requests for Restore Appeals submitted to ETS during the final week of the summative CAASPP administration may not be granted if there is not enough time to process the demographic change.
- Reach out to your assigned LEA Success Agent prior to submitting Reset Appeals for any assessment with the intention to Restore.
- Incorrect SSID Used cases submitted for a one-way or two-way swap must be confirmed in the “Notes” section of the submitted case by the submitter or LEA CAASPP coordinator prior to the end of the selected testing window. Note that any cases that are not confirmed in the “Notes” section of the submitted case may result in a Reset Appeal for the incorrect SSID.
